US iron ore output down 4.1 percent in February from January

US iron ore production in February this year amounted to 3.02 million mt, decreasing by 4.1 percent compared to January and down 26.8 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in February this year totaled 106,000 mt, decreasing by 93.7 percent compared to the previous month and down by 45.4 percent compared to February 2015. 
 
In the first two months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 6.16 million mt, falling by 26.1 percent compared to the January-February period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 1.81 million mt, decreasing by 35.6 percent year on year.
