US industrial production rises slightly in September

The US Federal Reserve announced Monday that industrial production in the US rose 0.2 percent in September after remaining unchanged in August. For Q3 as a whole, industrial production rose at a 5.1 percent annual rate. Industrial production was also up 3.2 percent over September 2010. Overall production at factories registered the third consecutive increase in September--factory production makes up 75 percent of the total. Industry capacity utilization rose 1.7 percent year-on-year in September.

Manufacturing output rose 0.4 percent after a 0.3 percent increase in August, while production at mines was up 0.8 percent in September, and industrial production in the construction sector edged up 0.2 percent.
