The Office of the US Trade Representative Office (USTR) has announced that it will suspend a scheduled tariff increase on Chinese goods until further notice following President Donald Trump’s decision in favor of a possible trade deal with China, as stated in a news report by Reuters.

“In accordance with the president’s direction, the Office of the United States Trade Representative will publish a notice in the Federal Register this week to suspend the scheduled tariff increase until further notice,” said the USTR, as quoted by Reuters.

Accordingly, if concrete steps are not taken by China on the road to a possible trade agreement, the US will increase the current 10 percent tariff to 25 percent on more than $200 billion worth of Chinese goods.
