According to a White House statement on February 15, detailed and intensive discussions have led to progress between China and the US regarding a trade deal. Both sides will continue working on all outstanding issues in advance of the March 1, 2019, deadline for an increase in the 10 percent tariff on certain imported Chinese goods, the statement said.

US President Donald Trump tweeted on February 17, “Trade negotiators have just returned from China where the meetings on trade were very productive. In the meantime, billions of dollars are being paid to the United States by China in the form of trade tariffs!”

Last week Trump said that the March 1 deadline in negotiations with China might be extended.
