US-based Arch Resources and CONSOL Energy merge as Core Natural Resources

US-based coal producers Arch Resources and CONSOL Energy have jointly announced that their stockholders have unanimously approved the merger of both companies to establish Core Natural Resources. The merger decision had been announced back in August 2024.

The newly established company will focus on the supply of metallurgical coal to global steel, industrial and power generation sectors, with its production capacity amounting to 12 million mt per year. It will reach the global market via two export terminals on the eastern US and will have access to ports on the West Coast and Gulf of Mexico.

The combined coal sales of Arch Resources and CONSOL Energy totaled 101 million mt in 2023.
