US Antitrust Division clears US Steel for National acquisition

The US Department of Justice Antitrust Division's investigation regarding US Steel's proposed acquisition of substantially all of National Steel Corporation's assets is now closed. With a notice from the Division sent in this respect to US Steel frees the company from antitrust considerations with the purchase pursuit. The next important step the company now aims to take is to reach an agreement over a new labour agreement with the United Steelworkers of America. The bankruptcy auction will be held by the Bankruptcy Court on the final sale of National Steel on April 21, 2003.
