German plantmaker SMS Demag has announced the successful commissioning of operations at the new four-strand continuous bloom caster at Ural Steel, a steel producing subsidiary of the Russian mining and steel producing company Metalloinvest holding.
The new concaster has an annual production capacity of one million mt and is able to produce blooms in two alternative selections for the section size: rectangular sections in the dimensions 330 mm x 470 mm or round with diameter of 430 mm - 600 mm (round billet). Both products have not been produced in Russia before.
The commissioning of the new caster will allow Ural Steel fulfill the vacuum in the Russian domestic market for these products and satisfy the needs of the company's customers, both domestic and international, in these products. Moreover, the commissioning of the new caster will allow Ural Steel to become a leader for production of round billet with diameter of 300 mm - 600 mm, which is used for pipes production.
