Ukraine-based DMZ's pig iron production up 5.3% in 2013

In December last year, Ukraine-based steel mill Donetskstal Metallurgical Plant (DMZ) produced 122,000 mt of pig iron and 3,500 mt of rolled steel products, according to the company's preliminary results.

In the whole of 2013, DMZ saw a 5.3 percent year-on-year rise in its pig iron production to 1.380 million mt, while its rolled steel product output fell by 79 percent compared to 2012 to 32,500 mt. In 2013, the company did not produce any crude steel due to closure of its open-hearth furnaces in April 2012.

DMZ plans to produce 118,000 mt of pig iron in January, down 3.3 percent month on month.
