According to Ukrainian Minister of Coal Industry Mr. Viktor Polatavets, Ukraine plans to build three new coal mines which will help to boost the country's coal production to 10 million mt a year.

The proposed mines will be located at Chernohradska, Lvov region, at Krasnolymanska-Gluboka, Donetsk region, and at Novosvitlivska, in the Lugansk region.

Feasibility studies on the locations in question have already been completed. The combined estimated resources at the proposed mines amount to about 500 million mt.

In addition, the minister is considering a possibility of the transfer of several state-owned coking coal mines to domestic steelmakers. The transfer may be in the form of investment in the reconstruction and development of mines by steelmakers.
