According to the preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, in the first eleven months of 2009 Ukraine registered an 18 percent decline year on year in its finished steel product output to about 24.42 million mt and a 23 percent decrease in its crude steel output to 27.01 million mt.
In January-November this year, Ukraine saw a 35 percent decrease year on year in its steel pipe production to about 1.46 million metric tons and a 20 percent reduction in its pig iron production to 23.32 million metric tons. On the other hand, during the period in question the country's production of coke went down by 14 percent year on year to 15.82 million mt.
In its iron ore segment, in January-November of the current year Ukraine produced about 59.34 million metric tons of iron ore and 49.4 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - down 12 percent and seven percent respectively compared to the same period last year. In addition, during the period in question, the country's agglomerate production amounted to about 31.7 million mt - down 22 percent, while its pellet production totaled 18.5 million mt - down four percent, both compared to January-November 2008.
During the first eleven months of 2009, scrap deliveries to Ukrainian mills decreased by 27 percent year on year to about 4.01 million metric tons.
