According to the preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, in 2009 Ukraine registered a 15 percent decline year on year in its finished steel product output to about 26.89 million mt and a 20 percent decrease in its crude steel output to 29.757 million mt.
In 2009, Ukraine saw a 17 percent reduction in its pig iron production to 25.676 million metric tons and an 11 percent decrease in its coke output to 17.38 million metric tons, both compared to 2008. On the other hand, last year the country's production of steel pipes went down by 34 percent year on year to 1.565 million metric tons, while its output of hardware decreased by 22 percent year on year to 232,000 metric tons.
In its iron ore segment, in 2009 Ukraine produced about 65.83 million metric tons of iron ore and 54.85 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - down eight percent and three percent respectively compared to the same period last year. In addition, in 2009 the country's agglomerate production amounted to about 34.845 million mt - down 19 percent, while its pellet production totaled 20.435 million mt - up 0.1 percent, both compared to the data for 2008.
In 2009, scrap deliveries to Ukrainian mills decreased by 21 percent year on year to about 4.6 million metric tons.
