UK basic metal output index up 3.1 percent in Q3 over Q2

According to a report released by the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS), in September this year the UK's seasonally adjusted production index of manufacturing fell by one percent compared with September 2011 and was slightly up by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month, following a fall of 1.2 percent month on month in August this year.

Manufacturing output rose by 0.9 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the previous quarter, recording the first quarter-on-quarter rise since the second quarter of 2011.

The largest contributions to the quarter-on-quarter rise in manufacturing output came from the manufacture of basic metals and metal products, which rose by 3.1 percent in the third quarter of the year. Meanwhile, in the UK the seasonally adjusted production index of basic metal and metal products rose by 1.2 percent in September this year compared to September 2011.
