In December last year, Turkey’s steel imports increased by 10.2 percent to 1.31 million mt, year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of December, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports increased by 29.3 percent to 445,000 mt, while its flat steel imports rose by 2.7 percent to 656,000 mt, both compared to the same month of 2016. In December, total long steel product imports were up by 11.8 percent to 122,000 mt, year on year.
In December, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 118 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 127 percent in the same month of 2016.
In 2017, the country’s steel imports decreased by 6.8 percent to 16.3 million mt, year on year. In particular, Turkey’s semi-finished imports fell by 21.5 percent to 4.8 million mt, while Turkey’s flat steel imports increased by 4.1 percent to 9 million mt, both year on year.
In 2017, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 108 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 99 percent in 2016.
