In May this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 135,675 mt, up 64.3 percent year on year and decreasing by 11.9 percent compared to April, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month increased by 44.9 percent year on year to $48.52 million, down by 12.4 percent compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 614,807 metric tons, down 4.6 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $222.9 million, decreasing by 9.1 percent compared to the same period of 2018.
In the first five months of this year, Turkey imported 448,912 metric tons of pig iron from Russia, up 7.34 percent year on year. Russia ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Ukraine which supplied 81,029 mt, down 47.39 percent year on year.
