Turkey’s pig iron imports almost double in January

According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in January this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 175,143 metric tons, decreasing 3.7 percent compared to the previous month of December and up 96.2 percent compared to January 2011.

Turkey's top pig iron sources in January were Ukraine which tripled its pig iron exports to Turkey on year-on-year basis. Ukraine exported 126,914 mt of pig iron to Turkey, increasing by 60 percent compared to December 2011. Russia was Turkey's second biggest pig iron source in the month in question, supplying 42,734 mt of pig iron, down 55 percent month on month and up four percent compared to January 2011.
