Turkey’s industrial turnover index up 9% in 2012

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK), Turkey's monthly industrial turnover index in December 2012 increased by three percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The industrial turnover index in December was up by 4.4 percent from November 2012. In 2012, the average rise in overall domestic industrial turnover was nine percent, down compared to the average increase of 28.1 percent recorded in 2011.
 
In December, the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of basic metals in Turkey decreased by 9.2 percent year on year and registered a 5.7 percent decrease from the previous month. In the second half of the year, a year-on-year decrease trend dominated the index, while in the whole of 2012 the average increase in the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of basic metals was 4.5 percent, compared to the average rises of 41.9 percent in 2011 and 28.1 percent in 2010.
 
The industrial turnover index for fabricated metal products manufacturing, except machinery and equipment, recorded a decrease of 5.7 percent year on year in December and rose by 7.1 percent over the previous month. The average increase in the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products was 6.5 percent in 2012, compared to the average rises of 29.2 percent in 2011 and 13.4 percent in 2010.
 
Meanwhile, in December last year, the industrial new orders index for the manufacture of basic metals decreased by 3.7 percent from November and was down 11.3 percent year on year. The industrial new orders index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, in December last year decreased by 8.8 percent compared to the same month of 2011 and was down 2.1 percent compared to the previous month.
 
In 2012, the average increase was 3.3 percent in the industrial new orders index for the manufacture of basic metals compared to 36.4 percent in 2011, and a 4.9 percent average rise was recorded in the industrial new orders index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, down from an average rise of 29.7 percent in 2011.
