Turkish crude steel output continued to decline in February this year due to falling exports, fluctuations in financial markets, economic turmoil and contracting margins, according to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In February, Turkey's crude steel production posted a decrease of 7.3 percent month on month and of 12.2 percent year on year to 2.39 million mt. In the given period, Turkey's crude steel production by electric arc furnaces declined by 12.1 percent on year-on-year basis and by 7.1 percent on month-on-month basis to 1.62 million mt, while the output of integrated plants decreased by 7.7 percent compared to the previous month and was down by 12.5 percent year on year to 770,000 mt.
In the January-February period, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces decreased by 10.9 percent year on year to 3.37 million mt, while the crude steel output of integrated plants declined by 11.9 percent year on year to 1.61 million mt.
On the other hand, in the January-February period Turkey's billet output decreased by 8.7 percent to 3.66 million mt, while the country's slab output saw a sharp decline of 17.7 percent to 1.32 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.
