After the US reduced the 50 percent duty on Turkish steel imports to 25 percent as of May 17, Turkey has decided to reduce the duties on certain US imports by half as per the principle of reciprocity.

In August last year, Turkey doubled the duties on certain US imports such as coal, rice, alcoholic beverages, leaf tobacco, passenger cars and cosmetics in retaliation for the doubling of tariffs by the US on Turkish steel imports.

Turkey had last year increased the import duty on coking coal from the US from five percent to 13.7 percent.
