Namik Ekinci, chairman of the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB), has stated that, before the US steel import tariffs enter into force on March 23, the Turkish steel industry’s priority is to be among the countries that will be exempted from the tariffs. According to the CIB chairman, if the 25 percent tariff is imposed on Turkey’s steel exports to the US, the US steel market will be closed to Turkey and this will be an unrecoverable loss.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Senel, undersecretary of Turkey’s Ministry of Economy, stated that the Turkish steel industry has so far developed itself though its own strength and efforts, adding that the Ministry of Economy has fully analyzed the Section 232 investigation of the US and taken all the necessary steps.
