Donald Trump said US-Brazil trade relations haven’t been “fair” for the North American nation while commenting on the new US, Mexico and Canada trade agreement, also known as USMCA.
“Brazil is another one. That’s a beauty. They charge us whatever they want,” he said, after briefly commenting on trade relations with India.
“If you ask some of the companies, they say Brazil is among the toughest in the world, maybe the toughest in the world. We don’t call them and say, you’re treating our companies unfairly, you’re treating our country unfairly,” he said.
The US had previously included Brazil under Section 232 tariffs, later switching to a quota. Brazil’s trade with the US in 2017 reached a surplus of $2.06 billion for Brazil, the first in a series of trade deficits for the South American nation in the past eight years, from 2007 to 2016.
