The Russian pipe producer TMK Group (TMK) has announced that its subsidiary Seversky Tube Works (STZ) has produced its first one million metric tons of steel at its new electric arc furnace (EAF) which was commissioned in November 2008.

Currently, STZ's electro-smelting shop, which includes a ladle furnace, a continuous billet caster and a vacuum degasser, fully meets the plant's requirements in round billets and delivers continuous cast billets to Sinarsky Pipe Plant, also a subsidiary of TMK. The production capacity of the shop is up to one million mt of liquid steel or 950,000 mt of high quality billets per year.

The total investments in the construction of STZ's new electro-smelting shop amounted to about Ruble 15 billion (approx. $485 million).
