The Russian pipe producer TMK Group (TMK) has announced that its subsidiary Seversky Tube Works (STZ) has commissioned a new state-of-the-art vacuum degasser, with which they plan to treat about 700,000 mt of steel per year.
Accordingly, with the commissioning of its new vacuum degasser, STZ has completed the construction of its electro-smelting shop, where it had previously put into operation a new ladle furnace, a new continuous billet caster and a new electric furnace.
The commissioning of the vacuum degasser, the construction of which started in March this year, will allow STZ to reduce the presence of hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and non-metallic elements in liquid steel, thereby improving the quality of its billets, which are used for the production of seamless pipes, not only at STZ, but also at TMK's Sinarsky Pipe Plant.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, the equipment for STZ's new vacuum degasser was delivered by Swiss-based equipment manufacturer Sytco.
