ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni allowed to resume production

The prefect of Terni in the central Italian region of Umbria has given the green light to the resumption of the activities of local stainless steel producer ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni (TK-AST) as of today, April 6, thus accepting the request presented last week by company CEO Massimiliano Burelli seeking to produce by way of derogation from the latest government decrees announced to tackle the Covid-19 coronavirus epidemic. In the meantime, local unions said they were convinced that "with the current health emergency, the resumption of production activities by TK-AST can still represent a danger."

The resumption of production will be gradual. Meanwhile, a new layoff procedure will be initiated for all workers for an additional two weeks, and protective equipment will be distributed to all workers at the site.
