Ternium Siderar commissions new slab caster

German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that the Argentina-based Ternium Siderar has successfully commissioned the two-strand continuous slab caster, supplied by SMS Siemag, at the San Nicolás location.

Designed for casting speeds of up to 2.15 meters per minute, the plant achieves a production capacity of 2.5 million mt of slab per year. The slab caster is able to produce slabs with a thickness range of 200 mm and 250 mm and with widths between 750 mm and 1,900 mm.

Thanks to the high-efficiency continuous caster, Siderar is able to fully utilize the production capacity of its upstream meltshops and increase its production of low- to medium-carbon steels and peritectic grades.
