Ternium Mexico has temporarily halted iron ore production at its Aquila mine in the city of Aquila, in Michoacán, the company said in a statement.

According to Ternium, local native residents have blocked access to the mine, which is an important source of revenue for the economic activity of the region.

“We hope that through dialogue and with the support of state authorities, which are relevant to monitor this situation, such conflict is solved and the blockade lifted,” Ternium said.

The company said it respects the San Miguel de Aquila Indian community and is ready to resume operations by the moment the blockade is removed.
