Steelmaker Ternium Mexico denied this week that the company is making or has made purchases of iron ore stolen in Aquila, Michoacan, where the company has its mining operations.

In a document sent to one of Mexico’s major newspapers--Reforma--the steel company disputed an article published March 9 in which sources alleged that Ternium purchased 50 percent of 3,200 tons of iron ore that suspected criminals stole from Aquila, Michoacán mines.

"Ternium confirms that it neither purchased nor obtained ore from Michoacán (except for its mine in Aquila), and rejects any statement about it not having all the necessary documentation."
