Luxembourg-based steel pipe manufacturer Tenaris has announced that on June 21 it officially commissioned its new finishing facility for boiler tubes in Zalau, Romania. This is the result of a $60 million investment in the construction of the dedicated finishing line carried out in conjunction with other improvements to Tenaris' hot rolling mill, to ensure higher product quality for the power generation market, as stated by the company.

"The finishing line will play a crucial role in Tenaris's industrial system to support the power generation industry. Also, it ensures the long-term sustainability of our Romanian operations, as we are adding a third pillar to our business, in addition to the industrial & automotive and oil & gas segments we are currently serving," said Gabriel Podskubka, Tenaris Area Manager Eastern Europe.

The new line, which incorporates state-of-the-art equipment and technology, meeting stringent quality and health, safety and environment standards, has a capacity of 75,000 tons per year.

Tenaris continues to grow in Romania. In 2012, Tenaris invested in the acquisition of a sucker rod production facility located in Campina. The company says it is also reinforcing its commitment to customers, employees and community through another major investment: $50 million in a state-of-the-art threading facility for tubes used in the oil and gas industry, to be completed in 2013.
