Tata Steel India achieves best-ever quarterly steel sales in December quarter

India-headquartered steel giant Tata Steel has announced that its finished steel output from Indian operations for the third quarter ended December 31 of the financial year 2017-18 amounted to 3.24 million mt, falling by 1.2 percent year on year. In the same quarter, the company’s finished steel output from Southeast Asian operations declined by 3.4 percent year on year to 560,000 mt. Meanwhile Tata Steel Europe’s crude steel output increased by 1.5 percent to 2.68 million mt compared to the same period of the previous year.

During the December quarter, Tata Steel India’s finished steel sales volume amounted to 3.30 million mt, while Tata Steel Europe’s finished steel sales totaled 2.41 million mt and the company’s finished steel sales from its Southeast Asian operations were recorded at 620,000 mt, up 10.4 percent, 3.4 percent and down 4.6 percent, respectively.

Tata Steel stated that during the given quarter it successfully ramped up its Kalinganagar steel plant in the eastern Indian state of Odisha to 100 percent capacity utilization for finished steel production. In addition, Tata Steel India achieved its best-ever quarterly steel sales of 3.30 million mt in the third quarter of the financial year 2017-18. However, in the December quarter, Tata Steel’s steel sales from both European and Southeast Asian operations were impacted by seasonality.
