Taiwan’s basic metal output up 11.6 percent in July

Taiwan's industrial production index in July this year rose by 2.1 percent as compared to July 2012 after falling by a revised 0.4 percent year on year in June, and was up 6.4 percent month on month, according to the country's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). However, the country's seasonally adjusted industrial production index in July rose 0.8 percent compared to June, and was up 0.6 percent compared to the same month of 2012.
 
In the first seven months of the year, Taiwan's seasonally adjusted industrial production index increased 0.6 percent compared to the first seven months of the previous year.
 
In July this year, industrial output in the country's basic metal manufacturing increased by 11.6 percent and output of metal product manufacturing fell by a slightly margin of 0.1 percent, both compared with July 2012. In addition, the two sectors saw 5.9 percent and 4.5 percent increases respectively on month-on-month basis. In the first seven months of 2013, a 2.1 percent year-on-year increase was recorded in Taiwan's basic metal manufacturing output, while the fabricated metal production index fell 0.3 percent compared to January-July 2012.

Meanwhile, in July this year production in Taiwan's machinery and equipment industry fell by 9.4 percent, output in the automotive industry increased by 5.5 percent, while production in the Taiwanese construction sector increased by 18.9 percent, all compared to the same month of 2012.
 
On the other hand, according to the MOEA, Taiwan's basic metal and basic metal product export orders amounted to $2.3 billion in July, up nine percent compared to the previous month and rising 0.4 percent compared to July 2012. The country's basic metal and basic metal product export orders in the first seven months of the current year amounted to a value of $15.7 billion, falling by 6.8 percent compared to the same period of 2012.
