The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) today welcomed Stelco, one of Canada's leading integrated steel companies, as a member of AISI. The AISI Board of Directors approved Stelco as a producer member at AISI’s recent Board meeting held in Washington, D.C.

“With its significant presence in North America, Stelco will be a great partner in our continued advocacy to fight unfairly traded foreign imports and level the playing field for the North American steel industry,” said AISI President and CEO Thomas J. Gibson. “The company’s support for our collaborative research and pro-manufacturing agenda will also deliver added-value to Stelco. I am pleased to welcome Stelco to the AISI family.”

“As Chairman of AISI, it is a pleasure to welcome Alan Kestenbaum, Stelco Executive Chairman, and all of the Stelco team, to AISI,” said John Ferriola, AISI chairman and chairman, president and CEO of Nucor. “Never has it been more critical than it is today for our industry to speak out loud and clear and with a unified voice on major policy issues that are impacting North American manufacturers. We look forward to working with Stelco to enhance the competitiveness of the steel industry globally.”

“Stelco is committed to helping ensure that the steel industry remains a foundation for the North American economy,” said Kestenbaum. “As the producers of high quality value-added hot rolled, cold rolled, coated sheet steel products for the construction, automotive and energy industries across Canada and the United States, we at Stelco look forward to contributing to the important work that AISI does on behalf of our industry.”
