SPP Youlcheon Energy, which is in charge of the casting and forging division and new renewable energy division of South Korea-based SPP Group, is scheduled to perform a cold-run test on July 15 on a new 100-mt electric arc furnace (EAF) it has recently installed at its plant.
The full-scale hot-run test of the furnace will be carried out after mid-August when the summer rainy season will be over.
Operating the new 100-mt electric arc furnace together with its 120-mt ladle refining furnace, VOD equipment and continuous casting facilities for ingots, SPP Youlcheon Energy is expected to become capable of producing about 600,000 mt of ingots per year, which are necessary for use in the production of forgings. However, it is anticipated that the company will turn out only about 48,000 mt of ingots for its in-house use at the initial stage of the new electric arc furnace operation in order to get its upper process and downstream process well balanced in producing its forgings.
