Despite the arrival of the peak season for rebar demand, South Korean steel producer Hyundai Steel and Dongkuk Steel plan to repair their rebar mills in May, suspending the operation of the related production facilities, according to Korea Metal Journal.

Hyundai Steel is scheduled to halt the operation of its small-size mill for nine days and of its main rebar mill for eight days at its Incheon Works for facility repair works. In addition, it will stop operating its Pohang Plant for eight days, while its rebar mill at the plant will be shut down for five days.

Dongkuk Steel will also repair its rebar plant in May, suspending the operation of its rolling line No. 1 for five days and rolling line No. 2 for six days in its Incheon Plant. Its steel bar production line at its Pohang Plant will be shut down for 12 days for facility repair works.
However, there is a possibility that the steelmakers will shut down their relevant facilities for a longer-than-planned period in May due to the government's request for reduced electric power use.
