In May this year, rebar sales of five major South Korean rebar producers totaled 849,100 mt, up 22.6 percent from the same period last year, according to a recent survey by the Korea Metal Journal.
Of the total rebar sales, domestic sales accounted for 824,100 mt, up 27.4 percent, while overseas sales amounted to just 25,000 mt, down 44.7 percent, both year on year. Boosted by the increase in May sales, the five mills' rebar production during the month increased by 12.8 percent year on year to 761,000 mt.
The steelmakers' rebar production in the January-May period increased by 8.5 percent year on year to 3,699,400 mt.
