Spanish iron and steel output index down 2.6 percent in July

In July this year, the Spanish industrial production index decreased by 2.6 percent year on year, while the seasonally adjusted index lowered by 5.4 percent year on year. According to the revised figures provided by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), in June the respective index values went down by 6.8 percent and 6.1 percent year on year.

In January-July of the current year, the Spanish industrial production index fell by 5.8 percent compared to the same period of 2011. In particular, in the given period durable consumer goods declined by 11.7 percent, non-durable consumer goods by 2.7 percent, capital goods by 11.3 percent and intermediate goods by 7.1 percent. The energy production index recorded the only positive year-on-year variation, up 0.5 percent in the January-July period.

The index for iron, steel and ferroalloy production in July was down 2.6 percent and decreased by 9.4 percent in January-July, both year on year. Meanwhile, the index for metal product fabrication (excluding machinery and equipment) declined by 9.4 percent in July and by 16.4 percent in the first seven months of the current year, both on year-on-year basis.
