Spanish base metals output index down 12.3 percent in April

In April this year, the Spanish industrial production index decreased by 8.2 percent year on year, while the seasonally adjusted index declined by 8.3 percent year on year. According to the figures provided by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), in March the respective decreases were 10.4 and 7.5 percent.

In January-April this year, the Spanish industrial production index was down by 6.2 percent compared to the same period of 2011. In particular, in the given period durable consumer goods dipped by 11.9 percent, non-durable consumer goods by 3.5 percent, capital goods by 11.3 percent and intermediate goods by 7.3 percent. In the first four months, the energy production index recorded the only positive year-on-year variation, up 0.1 percent.

The production index for base metals was down 12.3 percent in April and decreased 10.9 percent in January-April, year on year. Meanwhile, the production index for metal products (except machinery and equipment) fell by 20.4 percent in April and was down 18.3 percent in the first four months, on year-on-year basis.
