In the first 11 months of this year, Spain's total motor vehicle output amounted to 1,860,700 units, falling by 17.75 percent year on year, according to the data reported by the Spanish Automobile and Truck Manufacturers' Association (ANFAC). In November, the country's total motor vehicle output was 185,156 units, down 16.1 percent, while its passenger car output declined to 154,499 units, falling 12.2 percent, both year on year.
In the first 11 months, the Spanish passenger car segment recorded a decline of 17.6 percent year on year in output with 1,447,515 units. In the industrial vehicle segment in the first 11 months, a year-on-year decrease of 21.7 percent was recorded in output, with 360,872 units. Meanwhile, Spanish exports of motor vehicles in the first 11 months of this year fell 19.8 percent year on year to 1,623,260 units.
The association said that in Spain it is expected 2.2 million units of motor vehicle production in 2013, 11 percent higher than the whole of 2012, which is forecasted to end with a volume of nearly 2 million vehicles. According to ANFAC, in a difficult environment in 2013, further work is needed to improve the competitiveness with industrial reforms aimed at achieving ANFAC's latest proposition of ‘Plan 3 Millions'.
The plan aims to make the spanish automotive industry an european leader, creating a new model of sustainable growth in our country. ANFAC called the government to pump up infrastructure investment, cut taxes and apply additional cost-control measures in order to halt the decline of the spanish auto industry and recover between 2015 and 2016 the production levels that existed before the crisis, reaching three million vehicles produced, from more than one million at present. The plan also aims to achieve a total sales volume of two million vehicles (1.3 million cars) and export 2.5 million units per year.
