South Korea’s car exports hit all-time record in 2011

In December 2011, South Korea's total car output surged by seven percent year on year, totaling 424,981 units, according to a report released by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA). The report says that the increase was due to the growth of exports. Meanwhile, in 2011 South Korea's car production rose nine percent compared to 2010 to 4,656,762 units.
 
South Korean domestic car sales in December this year decreased by 5.4 percent year on year to 130,004 units due to contracted consumer sentiment - marking the third consecutive month of decline. In the whole year of 2011, domestic sales climbed 0.6 percent year on year to 1,474,552 vehicles.
 
South Korean car exports in December went up by 16.2 percent year on year to 301,639 units. In 2011, exports surged by 13.7 percent year on year to 3,151,930 units, hitting an all-time record.
