South Korea’s domestic car sales up 5.5 percent in February

In February this year, domestic car sales in South Korea rose 5.5 percent year on year to 113,565 vehicles despite weak consumer sentiment and rising fuel prices, according to a report released by the South Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy. In the given month, sales of imported cars rose 35.8 percent compared to February 2011 to 9,196 units, while South Korean car exports surged 51.2 percent year on year and were up 21.4 percent compared to January, rising to 299,053 vehicles.
 
Meanwhile, in February this year South Korea's car production jumped 41.8 percent year on year to 421,789 vehicles thanks to strong exports and more working days in the month in question.
 
In the first two months of the current year, South Korea's car production rose 10.2 percent to 754,758 vehicles, while its domestic car sales decreased eight percent to 210,494 vehicles, both compared to the same period of 2011.
