South African exports of scrap and pig iron in January 2019

According to provisional customs data, South Africa exported 31,046 mt of ferrous scrap, up 18 percent compared to 26,382 mt in December 2018. The largest destination in January was India with 22,778 mt, followed by Pakistan with 4,980 mt, and Bangladesh with 2,411 mt.

Pig iron exports, on the other hand, declined 27 percent from 59,908 mt in December 2018 to 43, 635 mt in January 2019. The largest destination for pig iron exports in January was the Netherlands with 12,500 mt, followed by the US with 9,500 mt, and Bangladesh with 5,595 mt.
