Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that it will supply a new 290-ton ladle furnace for ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the largest metallurgical enterprise in Kazakhstan. The scope of supply will comprise the engineering, mechanical and electrical equipment and supervision of erection and commissioning of the new ladle furnace, gas cleaning plant, additives handling system and water treatment plant. Commissioning of the new ladle furnace is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018.

SMS stated that the ladle furnace allows precise control of the chemical composition and temperature of the liquid steel and slag, thus satisfying an important basic requirement for the further process steps aimed at producing high-quality steel grades, and also functions as a buffer for the molten metal upstream of the remaining processing stations.
