Brazilian steel producer Sinobras has unveiled details and discussed next steps of its new steel plant, being built in the city of Marabá, in the northern state of Pará.

During a workshop in Marabá, Sinobras and representatives of the iron ore miner Vale, of the engineering company Hatch and of the Tecnored plant that is being built by Vale, have discussed details about processes, production route, production capacity, characteristics and quality of the products, integration with the Tecnored plant and the first options for the layout of the new plant.

The parties have agreed on a deadline of July 2023 for the conclusion of the engineering project, with the startup of the plant during the second half of 2025, soon after the startup of the Tecnored plant that will feed with pig iron the new steel plant.

The Tecnored technology is a low carbon pig iron process using energy sources, such as biomass, that emit less CO2 than the traditional coal and coke iron-making processes.

Vale will offer guarantee to Sinobras, in relation to the financial loan for the construction of the new steel plant.

Meanwhile, Sinobras is increasing its rolling capacity from today’s 380,000 mt to 800,000 mt per year, with conclusion expected for the end of 2023.
