Singapore-based steelmaker Meranti Steel has announced that it has joined forces with Switzerland-headquartered international commodities producer and trader Glencore to procure high-grade iron ore pellets and premium ferrous-based scrap metal for its new green steel plant in Thailand. The partnership deal also aims to help the decarbonization of the steel industry, Meranti Steel stated.

As SteelOrbis reported earlier, the Singapore-based producer has ordered a DRI-based plant from Italian plantmaker Danieli to produce green steel at its Thai mill.

“By leveraging Glencore's expertise and resources, we aim to achieve a significant reduction in carbon emissions for our new green steel plant in Thailand,” Meranti CEO Dr Sebastian Langendorf stated.
