Scrap supplier SIMS UK has informed the market that it has stopped accepting scrap from third parties as of the evening of Tuesday, March 24. As learned by SteelOrbis, this decision may be made in accordance with the UK government’s decision to impose a three week-long lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus in the region.

As SIMS UK has its own collection activities, the scrap flow to the company’s 40 yards and five export yards in the UK will continue. This is estimated to represent approximately 50 percent of the company’s usual scrap flow. It is known that SIMS UK handled a total of 1.6 million mt of scrap in 2019.
