Turkish mills' import scrap purchase prices have risen since last week and some bookings have been reported. Finding ex-US scrap prices to be on the high side, Turkish mills currently prefer sources other than the US for their scrap import bookings.
Ex-US HMS I/II 80:20 scrap offer prices for Turkey are standing at about $380-385/mt CFR, though no transaction has been confirmed so far at this price range.
On the other hand, this week a Turkish mill has concluded the booking of an ex-UK scrap cargo, consisting of 25,000 mt of HMS I/II 80:20 and 8,000 mt of P&S scrap at the average price level of $372/mt CFR, while an ex-Europe scrap cargo, consisting of 10,000 mt of HMS I and 20,000 mt of HMS I/II 70:30, has been transacted at $370/mt CFR Turkey.
In ex-Black Sea A3 scrap bookings in Turkey, prices have been at $365-370/mt CFR, with ex-Black Sea scrap transaction prices increasing in the past week.
Freight rates for certain routes have lately increased by $3-4/mt, providing support for scrap prices.
Just before the start of the Feast of Sacrifice holiday tomorrow, October 24, it is thought that the market may witness some new scrap transactions today.
