Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Technologies announced that it will supply a new wire rod mill for China-based steelmaker Weiyuan Iron & Steel Company, Ltd to expand the company's annual production by 650,000 mt per year.
The new wire rod to be located in Lianjie Industrial Park in Weiyuan, Sichuan is expected to be commissioned in the spring of 2013. The new mill in question will produce wire rods that are 5 mm to 25 mm in diameter. The new equipment is designed to reach a speed of 112 meters per second.
The largest privately owned iron and steel making company in Sichuan Province, Weiyuan Iron & Steel Company, Ltd. has an annual crude steel production capacity of 2 million mt.
