Chinese long steel market continues to move upwards

Tuesday, 25 September 2012 14:27:53 (GMT+3)   |
During the week ending September 24, rebar and wire rod prices in the Chinese domestic have increased, with slight increases seen in East and South China, while steeper increases have been observed in North China, where slight price decreases registered in the previous week. The rebar futures contract (1301) closed at $529/mt at Shanghai Futures Exchange on September 24. Average domestic rebar and wire rod prices in China's main markets can be viewed at SteelOrbis Daily Steel Prices.

It is thought that remarkable increase of long steel prices in north China in the given week, exceeding market players' expectations, would help stabilizing the market, though these steel increases should be followed by some adjustments. However, long steel prices in eastern and southern parts of China have maintained a relatively stable upward trend. During the past two weeks, average increase of long steel in Chinese domestic market reached $45-50/mt.

It is thought that Chinese domestic long steel market may maintain its uptrend in the coming week.
