Austria-based plantmaker Siemens Metals Technologies has announced that it will supply a 150-ton, twin RH vacuum degassing plant for the Mexican steel producer Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA). The new plant will be installed at AHMSA's steelworks No. 2 in Monclova, Mexico.
The new plant with an annual liquid steel production capacity of about two million mt will allow AHMSA to produce steels with very low hydrogen content, required for producing high-strength steel grades intended for use in the oil and gas industries. The new RH plant is scheduled for commissioning in October 2015.
Siemens stated that AHMSA's annual production of liquid steel will increase from 4.2 million mt to 5.5 million mt upon the startup of its new electric arc furnace in September this year.
