Siemens to modernize Hüttenwerke’s continuous slab caster No. 1

Austria-based plantmaker Siemens Metals Technologies has announced that it has received an order from German-based Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH (HKM) to modernize the continuous slab caster No. 1 in the Duisburg-Huckingen plant.
 
HKM is aiming to increase the production capacity of the plant from around one million mt to 1.1 million mt of slabs per year, and also to improve the quality of the products still further. The start-up of the modernized casting plant is scheduled for the end of 2013.
 
HKM operates three continuous slab casters in Duisburg-Huckingen. The continuous slab caster No. 1 produces slabs with a thickness of 260 mm.
