Austria-based plantmaker Siemens Metals Technologies has announced that it has received the final acceptance certificate for the stainless steel plant owned by Outokumpu Stainless in the USA. The plant was constructed in Calvert, Alabama, and went into operation in November 2012.

Within the scope of the stainless steel plant delivery, Siemens supplied an electric arc furnace, an AOD converter, secondary metallurgical facilities, and a continuous slab caster. The plant is designed to produce 1 million mt of AISI 200, 300 and 400 grades of stainless steel per year. The single-strand continuous slab caster is designed to produce slabs ranging in width from 800 mm to 1900 mm and with thicknesses from 180 mm to 240 mm.
