Chinese steel producer Shougang halted its medium plate production in Beijing on June 28 and plans to halt all its steel production in the Chinese capital, totaling an annual capacity of 4 million mt, by the end of 2010.
Shougang's plate production facility located in the Jingshan district of Beijing was built in 1986, undergoing three major overhauls in its lifetime. In its 24 years of operations, the facility produced a total of 13 million mt of high grade plate.
Shougang aims to reach an annual steel production capacity of 10 million mt at its new facility in Caofeidian, close to Beijing, by the end of the current year.
